We've had some conflicts on roster players when trading. Who is considered a roster player? If a player meets 2 of 3 criteria is considered a roster player.
A roster player is broken down into 3 criteria:
1. Players overall rating. We're going to use 75 overall
2. Players role(4th line, minor forward, depth D etc....)
3. Games played in the NHL. We're using 82 games(season plus playoffs)
Here are some examples for clarification
1st Example:
Dan Sexton: 74 overall, minor scoring fwd and has played over 82 games in NHL. Therefor Sexton is NOT CONSIDERED a roster player because he only meets one criteria(over 82 NHL games played)
2nd Example:
Mathieu Carle: 75 overall, minor top 2 Def, 3GP in NHL. Therefor, Carle is NOT considered a roster player because he only meets one of the following criteria(75 overall)
3rd Example:
Tomas Zaborsky: 76 overall, depth FWD, zero games played. Because is role isn't direct on if he's minor or an NHLer then will consider it neutral(means nothing). Zab is NOT considered a roster player meets only one criteria.(76 overall)
4th Example:
Brad Staubitz: 67 overall, 4th line FWD, many games in the NHL. Brad is considered a ROSTER player because he meets two of the criteria.(4th line role, many NHL games)
5th Example:
Smith-pelley: 74 overall, 4th line FWD and has played 77 regular season games and 1 playoff. A total of 78 games. He is NOT considered a roster player yet until he plays 4 more games. He only meets one criteria at this moment.(4th line FWD)
Just remember age is NOT a factor. Hopkins is considered a roster player at 19 where as some guys just don't develop and stay minor players at 30.
