Injured after the Trade
Recently, We've had two cases where players involved in a trade have been severely injured after the trade was accepted by both parties and approved by the commissioner.
This is mainly caused by how NHL 13 is designed. Trades only go through after the week advances, but a team can continue to play traded players in remaining games until the week turns over. So, a player can be severely injured on Team A when he is scheduled to be traded to Team B once the week advances.
I think we would all agree, that this is unfair for the team receiving the injured player(s).
This problem would be easy to avoid if GMs could bench traded players until the trade went through, but this isn't possible in most cases. The team would have to call up players to fill in the gaps and risk sending players through waivers once the trade was completed.
NEW Rules and Guidelines on Trading
- All trades will only be approved by the commissioner an hour before the week is advanced to avoid approving trades with severely injured players.
- Even though the trades are only approved on the last day of the cycle, no trades can be reversed by either team for any other reason other than if the player is injured. Even if both teams decide that they would like to stop the trade, this will not be possible. Once the trade is accepted by both teams there is no turning back unless the player is injured for more than 5 games.
- Injuries of 5 games or less will be considered minor injuries and will not affect the trade whatsoever. Therefore, the team cannot request that the trade be reversed seeing as the trade would only last one cycle.
- These rules only apply to players injured after the trade has been accepted. Therefore, I strongly recommend that if you are agreeing to a deal involving an injured player that you mention it in the forum posting.
- The team receiving the injured player may decide to continue with the trade even though the player he or she is receiving has been injured.
- In the unlikely event that a trade is approved by the league even though a player is severely injured, the teams will need to reverse the trade during the next cycle. It is not possible to reverse the trade during the current cycle since the trade doesn't actually take place until the week is advanced.
* Example: During week 1, Montreal trades Brian Gionta to the Detroit Red Wings for Darren Helm. Brian Gionta is injured for 35 games after the trade is approved by the both teams and the league. Detroit demands that the trade be reversed. The trade must be reversed in week 2 and will only take effect on week 3. This means that Detroit will have to keep injured Brian Gionta during week 2.
Suggestion: If you really want your trade to go through and want to avoid your player being injured before the trades goes through, think about giving him a diminished role if you are unable to fully scratch him.
I hope this is clear and makes sense to everyone. If you have any questions please PM and I will do my best to answer them.
Thank you
